Is it rude to leave a group chat that's 90% memes?
The complainant says
I'm in a group chat with about fourteen people from university. It gets 200 to 300 messages a day, and nearly all of it is memes, videos and in-jokes from the three most active members. My phone is constantly buzzing and I've muted it, but then I miss actual plans.
I left the chat and sent a friendly message first saying 'love you all but I can't keep up, message me directly for plans!'. One of the admins added me back within an hour and said leaving was 'a bit dramatic'. I left again.
The other side says the group chat, as the complainant tells it
The group says the chat is how everyone stays in touch now, and leaving makes it look like you're falling out with everyone. They say muting is the obvious solution and that plans are always pinned.

300 messages a day is a part-time job.
Adding someone back after they left with a polite goodbye is the dramatic part.
Leaving twice in one day is iconic behaviour and I respect it.
Suggest a second chat just for plans. Every big friend group eventually needs one.
