Our street is narrow and parking is tight. My neighbour does the school run and, most mornings, parks across the end of my driveway while he walks his kids to the door of the house opposite where a childminder lives. He says it's only five minutes. It's often closer to fifteen, because he chats.
Twice I've been late for work because I couldn't get out. Yesterday, when he parked across my drive, I pulled my car forward to the end of the driveway so he couldn't reverse out either, and waited for him in my car with a coffee. He came back, saw he was stuck and was furious.
Waiting in the car with a coffee is cinema.
Petty? Yes. Effective? Also yes. He'll never do it again.
Petty and effective is the best kind of justice.
Or it escalates and you're living next to an enemy for twenty years. A chat first would have been wiser.
Fifteen minutes because he chats. Every street has that man.
Blocking a driveway is not a friendly street thing. It's a blocking a driveway thing.
Leave a friendly note first. If that fails, the coffee move.
