Need to know how tall. A 2m hedge and a 5m hedge are totally different cases.

The complainant says

I have a tall hedge along the side of my front garden. It's been there since before I bought the house, it gives me privacy from the road and birds nest in it. My neighbour says it blocks the light to her front room in the afternoon.

She's asked me to cut it down to fence height. I offered to trim it by about a foot every year, and to keep it neat. She says that's not enough and she might look into making a formal complaint.

The other side says the neighbour, as the complainant tells it

She says her front room is dark all afternoon, the hedge has grown much taller over the last few years, and that a foot won't make a difference. She says she's tried to be friendly about it.

A foot a year and keeping it neat is a reasonable offer.

Cut it down to fence height is a big ask when it was there first. Meet in the middle.
