The complainant says

My parents very generously lent my partner and me £15,000 towards a house deposit, to be paid back over ten years with no interest. We're incredibly grateful.

We're now redoing the kitchen with our own savings. My parents have visited twice to 'give input', sent links to kitchens they like, and my dad said that since they 'have a stake in the house' they'd like the kitchen to be something that doesn't hurt its value. We want dark green cupboards. They want white.

The other side says the parents, as the complainant tells it

My parents say they're not trying to control anything, they just want to protect the investment while their money is tied up in it. They say dark green is a trend that will date quickly.

They lent money at zero interest. Some polite listening is a small price, even if you ignore it.

In ten years every kitchen dates. White kitchens date too. Go green.

Get the loan written down if it isn't. It stops things getting blurry like this.
