What we do not do
We do not decide whether your opinion is correct. We do not remove a question because it is controversial, because it is about politics, or because we disagree with the answer most people gave. There is no approval queue for opinions: a question you ask goes live as soon as an automatic safety check has read it, usually at once. That check looks only for the things listed below. Questions about difficult topics stay up and are shown to people signed in as adults.
Where the line is
The line is legal and safety, and it is short:
- nothing unlawful
- no credible threats or incitement to violence
- nothing that sexualises children
- no intimate images shared without consent
- no doxxing or posting someone’s personal information
- no spam, scams, malware or phishing
- no automated voting or coordinated manipulation of results
Three separate states
A question can be published (its link works), discoverable (it can appear on the homepage, in search and in categories) and monetisable (it can carry advertising). These are independent. A lawful but unpleasant question may keep a working link while being kept off discovery surfaces and carrying no advertising, rather than being removed outright.
Reporting
Every question, comment and profile can be reported. Reports go to a queue ordered by severity. Reporting something does not automatically remove it, and repeatedly reporting content that does not break the rules is itself a misuse of the system.
On results
Results on CrumbJar Polls describe the people who happened to answer. They are entertainment, not research. Do not present them as a representative survey, and be sceptical when anyone else does.
