Booking the only meeting room every morning, every day, forever, is technically following the rules and clearly against the spirit of them.

The complainant says

Our office has one small meeting room for twelve people. A coworker books it every day from 9 to 12 as 'focus time' and works in there alone with the door shut. When I need it for a client call I have to either take the call in the stairwell or ask him to move, and he always sighs and says he booked it first.

I asked if he could book it less often. He said he's following the booking system and I should book further ahead.

The other side says the coworker, as the complainant tells it

He says the booking system is first come first served, he books it weeks ahead, and nobody else bothered to until now. He says he can't concentrate in the open plan office and it's not his fault the company only has one room.

Book it every afternoon. Then it's a fair fight.

Client calls should take priority over solo focus. Ask the office manager to set that rule.

He's not wrong that the real problem is one room for twelve people.
