My friend asked me to be her plus-one and then made me pay for the hotel. Who's wrong?
The complainant says
A friend was invited to a wedding and her partner couldn't go, so she asked me to be her plus-one. She sold it as a free fun weekend away. I took a day off work and bought a new outfit.
After the wedding she sent me a request for half the hotel room, £140, plus half the fuel. I had assumed, since she invited me as a favour to her, that the room was covered. She says it's obvious that adults split a room.
The other side says the friend, as the complainant tells it
She says she never said the weekend was free, just that food and drink at the wedding were covered. She says I got a weekend away, a free three-course meal and an open bar, and splitting accommodation is standard between friends.

Half the hotel feels normal. Half the fuel for a trip you only made as a favour feels cheeky.
This should have been said upfront. Surprise invoices ruin friendships.
Free three course meal and an open bar is actually a pretty good deal for £140 and a new outfit.
Plus a day's annual leave. People forget that one.
Pay the hotel, gently push back on fuel, and next time get the costs in writing before you say yes.
