She left you the flat. That was her decision to make, and it seems pretty clear why.

The complainant says

My gran passed away last year. I visited her every week for the last five years, did her shopping and took her to appointments. She left me her small flat in her will. My cousins, who live nearby but rarely visited, received smaller cash gifts.

They've suggested it would be 'fair' for me to sell the flat and split the money equally, because gran always said she loved all her grandchildren the same. I think she made her choice deliberately.

The other side says the cousins, as the complainant tells it

My cousins say gran's will was changed late in her life, and they believe she would have wanted things to be equal. They say they had young kids and jobs and couldn't visit as much, but they loved her too.

Loving everyone the same doesn't mean dividing everything the same.

Sorry for your loss. Five years of weekly visits is a lot of love.

If the will was changed late and there are real concerns, that's something for a solicitor, not a family chat. Otherwise, it stands.

Agreed. Don't negotiate with them informally.
