The complainant says

My friend is planning to quit a stable job to start a subscription box for luxury dog treats. She's asked everyone for feedback and people keep saying it sounds amazing. I work in retail analytics and honestly the numbers don't look good: the market is crowded, margins are thin and she has no savings buffer.

When she asked me directly, I said I think it's risky and she should test it as a side project first. She was upset and said she expected me of all people to support her, and that I'm negative about everything.

The other side says the friend, as the complainant tells it

She says she didn't ask for a business plan review, she asked for encouragement, and that if she listened to cautious people she'd never do anything. She says people who start businesses always get doubters.

Update from the complainant 26 days ago

She's launched it as a side project and kept the job for now. She's actually sold a few hundred boxes, which I'm genuinely thrilled about.

Thanks everyone. We're good. She sent me a box as a peace offering and my dog is now her biggest fan.

She asked for feedback. You gave feedback. That's the deal.

Cheerleading someone into quitting a job with no savings isn't kind though.
