Case #51256 Neighbours 8,622 jurors so far

Were we wrong to complain about our neighbours' weekly garden parties?

The complainant says

Our neighbours love having people over. Every Saturday from May to September they host a barbecue for fifteen or twenty people, with a speaker playing music until around 11pm. It's not wild, but it's loud, and our bedroom window faces their garden. We have a baby who goes to sleep at 7pm.

We asked nicely for the music to go down after 9pm. It lasted one week. We then emailed the council for advice about noise, and somehow the neighbours found out and now they won't speak to us.

The other side says the neighbours, as the complainant tells it

They say they are within their rights to enjoy their own garden on a Saturday, 11pm is not late, and that going to the council behind their backs instead of speaking to them again was a betrayal.
